Joe Biden has managed to blunder his way into the mother of all political scandals.
With the revelation that he had left classified documents sitting in his garage, Biden’s latest scandal has the potential to finally topple his political career and put an end to his plans to run for re-election in 2024.
And now, more information is finally coming out to prove that the initial story is actually only the tip of the iceberg.
Since the first reports came out about boxes of classified materials being found in Biden’s garage, it has also come to light that the Department of Justice intentionally pushed off making the story public until after the midterm elections.
What’s worse, the special counsel appointed to investigate the scandal is potentially being directed to actually exonerate Biden of any wrong-doing, with conservatives in Congress now launching their own investigation into the role the Justice Department played in helping to shield Biden from any criticism.
And in the face of the initial scandal and now the scandal tied to the attempted cover-up, Democrats are beginning to worry that Joe Biden just found himself in a Watergate-style scandal that could prove to be his political undoing.
NBC News reports, “Democratic allies are voicing frustration with White House officials’ tight-lipped approach to the classified documents found in an office and residence of President Joe Biden, calling on the administration to be more forthcoming in its handling of the issue.
“The uproar over the documents has quickly distracted from the administration’s policy agenda and could also influence the timing of Biden announcing his 2024 plans. Some Democrats now suggest that he wait and let the controversy wane before launching a re-election bid.”
Joe Biden was planning on officially kicking off his 2024 re-election bid in just a matter of weeks before this scandal broke.
And now, Democrats are panicking that the classified documents story, as well as the Justice Department’s cover-up of the initial scandal, could end up tarnishing Joe Biden in a major way if he still chooses to follow through with his re-election plans.
For now, calls within the party have been restricted to simply “delaying” Biden’s re-election announcement.
But there are also growing signs that some Democrats are upset about the fact that Joe Biden appears to be digging his own hole.
“Biden needs to more fully explain how and why classified records dating back to his vice presidency wound up in his garage and a private office in Washington, D.C., according to Democratic strategists, lawmakers and even administration officials,” adds NBC News.
This comes after Joe Biden’s initial defense for leaving classified documents in his garage which amounted to him saying “at least it wasn’t left by the street.”
That response triggered an immediate backlash, and left the impression that Joe Biden didn’t believe the scandal was that big of a deal.
Since those comments, it has now come out that the Justice Department attempted to hide the story from the rest of the public, implying that Biden’s allies knew how big of a deal the scandal truly is.
And now, Democrats cannot ignore the story any longer out of fear that it could tank Biden’s chances in the next election.
