Jim Jordan drove the D.C. establishment insane.
There was a good reason for that.
And Trey Gowdy dropped one bombshell about Jim Jordan that will turn everything upside down.
As American Patriot Daily reports:
Twenty establishment RINOs banded together and denied Jim Jordan the 217 votes necessary to become the next speaker of the House.
These denizens of the D.C. swamp were furious that Jim Jordan wouldn’t support a blank check for Joe Biden’s war in Ukraine and that he would demand real border security before funding the government.
On Fox News after the vote, former South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy appeared on Martha MacCallum’s show to explain what he really thought was going on here.
Gowdy told MacCallum the swamp RINOs who opposed Jordan were really opposed to the idea of a conservative holding power.
Jordan’s supporters booted House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and made it clear that McCarthy’s establishment understudy, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, was an unacceptable replacement.
“I don’t think this is about Jimmy,” Gowdy stated. “It is about his supporters. And that is what I am consistently hearing up to, and including in the last hour. It is not Jim Jordan. It is the fact that Kevin McCarthy was the victim of a drive-by shooting orchestrated by a small group of people and Stevie Scalise got one crack at it. What they said to Stevie, ‘Ok, you had your chance. You couldn’t get to 217 or 218. Now it’s not your chance anymore.’”
For as long as politics existed there have always been factional battles inside coalitions.
Different groups always vied for power.
But in this case, Gowdy told MacCallum it was exceptionally tense because the GOP establishment was livid over the fact that conservatives were willing to go to the mat for Jordan.
“Look, politics is always fractured, Martha,” Gowdy began. “But what they’re doing in the room right now is really – they’re trying couples counseling for people who want to kill each other. Having a marriage and family counselor for this level of division and these fissures, I cannot overstate how angry some Republican members are with Jordan supporters – not Jordan. His supporters.”
Some of the RINOs who opposed Jordan like New York Congressman Mike Lawler are openly floating the idea of granting Speaker Pro Tempore Patrick McHenry powers to act in an official capacity and bring legislation to the floor.
That could only happen through a resolution that would require massive numbers of Democrat votes.
And the Democrats would demand power-sharing concessions that would neuter the GOP majority in exchange for their support for such a resolution.
Conservatives always suspected that the GOP establishment hated the base more than they wanted to beat Democrats.
RINOs teaming up to stop Jim Jordan from becoming speaker of the House while expressing openness to a deal with Democrats just proved that to be the case.
