Alvin Bragg was in shock.
Bragg wasn’t expecting his lawfare to blow up like this.
And Alvin Bragg just caused Democrats to suffer this bad setback.
As Great American Daily reports:
The point of inventing convoluted criminal charges against Donald Trump – Bragg claimed Trump stole the 2016 election and covered it up by his accounting department listing payments to his lawyer as for legal services – was to fracture Donald Trump’s support.
Democrats figured a guilty verdict would give some voters pause about casting a ballot for a felon to be President of the United States.
The target for this psychological warfare was college-educated voters in the suburbs who reluctantly backed Trump in 2016 but switched over to Joe Biden in 2020.
These are your classic Never Trumpers or Never-Again Trumpers who fell for the media gaslighting about mean tweets signifying the end of the republic.
Republican Scott Jennings is a Republican strategist with impeccable GOP establishment credentials.
Jennings worked in the Bush White House and is an acolyte of RINO Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
That makes Jennings plugged in with the type of professional-class voters Trump lost in 2020.
Jennings told CNN viewers that Bragg’s kangaroo court had the opposite effect.
Previously Trump-resistant Republicans who were appalled by thuggish tactics deployed against Trump.
“Well, if my phone and the text messages I’m receiving are any indication, every Republican in the country is madder than a wet hen,” Jennings declared.
Authoritarian regimes invent nuisance crimes to jail the political opposition.
In this case, Bragg took a bookkeeping entry from seven years ago to claim marking payments to a lawyer as for legal services allowed Bragg to claim Trump covered up a criminal conspiracy to steal the 2016 election.
Jennings said this naked lawfare led some Republicans to realize they didn’t need to be fans of Trump to recognize that if Democrats succeed in weaponizing the justice system to serve as political guided missiles to nuke the opposition it would lead America into dangerous and dark waters.
“I mean, people who are decidedly non-MAGA, not Trump fans are blowing up tonight saying this case never should have been brought, this is ridiculous charges. It was an egregious use of the criminal justice system. And I mean, I’m hearing people say I had no intention of voting for Donald Trump, and now I am. And then if you ask the Trump campaign, what’s happening?” Jennings continued.
The level of enthusiasm for Trump was quantifiable as Jennings revealed WinRed – the online donation portal used by the Trump campaign – crashed because of all the activity.
“You know, they literally broke their online donation portal because people were rushing to the internet to give them money in the minutes after the verdict,” Jennings added.
The Trump campaign later revealed it raised nearly $53 million in the 24 hours since the conviction.
By comparison, ActBlue – the Democrat online donation portal – raised about $20 million in total between every group and candidate who utilized the platform in the 24 hours after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.
Polls usually follow money in politics.
And Jennings warned Democrats that this conviction could blow up in the Democrats’ faces.
“So I think there’s a real chance here. It’s going to massively backfire on the Democrats and help Donald Trump,” Jennings concluded.
