The pressure of the 2024 election is getting to Democrats.
Everyone on the left knows this race is up in the air.
And Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s brain melted over this election spoiler.
As American Patriot Daily reports:
Jill Stein was one of the earliest politicians to publicly push the “Green New Deal” that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has made one of her signature issues.
This extreme environmental agenda was a staple of the Green Party’s platform long before it started being pushed by “Squad” members like Ocasio-Cortez and other progressives in Congress.
Because of this, Ocasio-Cortez should be grateful to Stein and other Green Party members for their contributions to her platform and she should probably see them as allies.
But instead, she has taken to attacking Stein in a very vicious way recently, lambasting her campaign publicly.
She is doing this on behalf of the Democratic Party, which is worried that Stein will draw away left-wing voters from their candidate of choice, Kamala Harris.
But Ocasio-Cortez’s attacks likely won’t do anything to help their cause or hurt Stein, but instead make the congresswoman herself look like she lost her cool and attacked a friend.
According to the New York Daily News, “Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez lashed out at third-party presidential candidate and Green Party leader Jill Stein over the weekend, calling her approach to politics ‘predatory’ and ‘inauthentic’ for not growing at the grassroots.
“Answering a follower’s question in her Instagram stories, the New York representative known as AOC said Stein, as the de facto leader of her party, was ‘not serious’ about actually running the country given that ‘all you do is show up once every four years to speak to people who are justifiably pissed off,’ but without growing her movement with down-ballot candidates.”
Ocasio-Cortez’s attacks are certain to divide the progressive movement, which has a tendency to eat its own in a self-destructive way to begin with.
And while she might think she is helping Harris win, a divided progressive movement is going to have the complete opposite effect, especially when Trump seems to be in the lead.
The article continues, “Stein was a physician and Harvard University professor before entering politics. She was the Green Party’s nominee in 2012 and 2016 and is running again in 2024 after a break in 2020 when the party picked Howie Hawkins.
“She also ran for governor in Massachusetts in 2002 and 2010.”
Stein and Ocasio-Cortez are both extremists, of course, and this is yet another example of how extreme political movements have a tendency to self-destruct with purity tests.
Stein surely believes she is more of a “pure” progressive than Ocasio-Cortez, while Ocasio-Cortez likely believes that she is a more effective political operative than the quixotic Stein.
This fight has devolved into public name-calling, and it is going to tear apart the most extreme wings of the Democratic coalition. This is yet another bad piece of news for Kamala Harris, and it’s something Trump has a golden opportunity to capitalize on, with more divisions on the left.
