Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez blew up an uneasy truce in her party.
Now everyone is picking a side.
And Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s resignation demand turned the Democrat Party upside down.
As Liberal Hack Watch reports:
The New York City police commissioner, school chancellor and chief counsel all resigned as a federal corruption probe into New York City’s Democrat Mayor Eric Adams accepting illegal foreign campaign contributions accelerated.
In light of these developments, Ocasio-Cortez released a statement calling on Mayor Adams to resign, arguing the investigation made it impossible for him to do his job.
“I do not see how Mayor Adams can continue governing New York City. The flood of resignations and vacancies are threatening gov function. Nonstop investigations will make it impossible to recruit and retain a qualified administration. For the good of the city, he should resign,” Ocasio-Cortez declared.
Hours later, ABC News reported federal prosecutors indicted Adams on sweeping charges of “one count of wire fraud, one count of conspiracy, two counts of solicitation of a contribution from a foreign national and one count of bribery.”
Adams responded by defiantly telling Ocasio-Cortez to mind her own business and claiming she doesn’t do anything for her district.
“I don’t listen to those comments that come from a, you know, just basically a no-show congresswoman. She’s not doing constituent services in her district,” Adams stated.
“I do constituent services every day as the mayor of the city of New York,” Adams added. “I don’t know when the last time they saw her in her congressional district.”
This indictment brought to the fore a massive culture of corruption in the New York Democrat Party.
Prosecutors alleged that beginning in 2014 when Adams served as Brooklyn borough president, he allegedly initiated a scheme where he traded political favors for illegal and unreported gifts from Turkish sources.
“By 2018, Adams — who had by then made known his plans to run for Mayor of New York City — not only accepted, but sought illegal campaign contributions to his 2021 mayoral campaign, as well as other things of value, from foreign nationals. As ADAMS’s prominence and power grew, his foreign-national benefactors sought to cash in on their corrupt relationships with him, particularly when, in 2021, it became clear that Adams would become New York City’s mayor,” the indictment stated.
Prosecutors also charged that Adams accepted $10 million in illegal foreign campaign contributions and allegedly used straw donors to disguise the illegal contributions.
“ERIC ADAMS, the defendant, sought and accepted illegal campaign contributions in the form of ‘nominee’ or ‘straw’ contributions, meaning that the true contributors conveyed their money through nominal donors, who falsely certified they were contributing their own money,” the indictment added.
“As a result of those false certifications, ADAMS’s 2021 mayoral campaign received more than $10,000,000 in public funds,” the indictment continued.
The charges facing Mayor Adams will also hang like a dark cloud over New York Democrats who are trying to flip four swing seats in the House of Representatives to win back the majority.
Ocasio-Cortez hoped to nip this scandal in the bud by forcing Adams out of office before the indictment hit.
But Adams pledged to fight on creating a massive political headache for Democrats.
