The scandal-plagued democrats absorbed another body blow.
It could not come at a worse time.
A big name Democrat got caught making this payout to cover up an ugly sex scandal.
As Black Eye Politics reports:
New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s campaign paid out at least $62,500 in order to make a settlement with a former aide, who accused her of grabbing his crotch.
James Hallinan alleged that Grisham assaulted him at the home of state Rep. Deborah Armstrong at a routine campaign meeting in 2018. He claims that she poured a bottle of water on his crotch and then grabbed his crotch through his clothes.
Hallinan tweeted that he’d endured “long, horrific abuse” from Grisham and accused her and staff of a cover-up.
He also alleged that she bullied her staff. “I’ve seen adult human beings literally convulse and shake and try not to cry after being berated by her in front of people. She would berate us and belittle us and shame us, publicly and privately.”
Grisham did not issue her own statement but a campaign spokesman, Jared Leopold, released a statement for the Democrat lawmaker, stating that the payments are part of a settlement resolving “numerous dubious and disputed potential claims made by [James Hallinan] arising from his employment in 2018 with the campaign organization and his subsequent search for employment.
“They reached a settlement in order to avoid the continuing distraction and significant expense of possible litigation and allow them to concentrate on working for the people of New Mexico during this pandemic.” Leopold added.
The Republican Governors Association issued a statement noting that the settlement cast serious doubts on Grisham’s years of denial.
“After years of vehement denial, Governor Lujan Grisham’s now revealed sexual harassment settlement certainly raises questions of why she tried to discredit her alleged victim,” RGA spokesman Will Reinert said. “Where there is smoke there is usually fire, and Lujan Grisham just wrote a check for $62,500 worth of kindling.”
Grisham isn’t the only Democrat governor facing accusations of sexual harassment recently.
Nine women have accused New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo of sexual harassment or misconduct towards them.
One accusation against Cuomo groping made by an unidentified woman on March 10 potentially reached “the level of a crime,” according to Albany police.
Cuomo issued a public statement: “At work sometimes I think I am being playful and make jokes that I think are funny,” he said. “I now understand that my interactions may have been insensitive or too personal and that some of my comments, given my position, made others feel in ways I never intended. I acknowledge some of the things I have said have been misinterpreted as an unwanted flirtation. To the extent anyone felt that way, I am truly sorry about that.”
