This wasn’t how Kellyanne Conway expected to handle the post-election period.
But Conway had an old score to settle.
And Kellyanne Conway wanted to keep this family secret buried.
As American Media Watchdog reports:
Kellyanne Conway had an old score to settle.
The offending party was former The View co-host Meghan McCain.
The scene was the Washington Post’s third annual Global Women’s Summit.
According to The Daily Beast, Conway confronted McCain after a panel discussion and aired out her issues regarding comments McCain had made about Conway’s marriage to her husband George when McCain was still on The View.
“Kellyanne walked up to Meghan and said, ‘I wasn’t going to say this while I was miked but do you remember what you said about me and my marriage on The View?’” The Daily Beast reported one source had recounted.
“You called my marriage ‘gross.’”
“Do you realize what you said and what you did? Do you realize all the people you hurt?” Conway added.
McCain played dumb.
“I don’t remember what I said that hurt you,” McCain replied.
Conway said she was showing McCain respect by waiting until their panel session ended to let McCain know how much offense she took to McCain’s comments about her marriage.
“I waited until the cameras and microphones were off to privately and calmly address the very public insults she has directed at my family,” Conway reportedly told McCain.
When Conway worked in the Trump White House, her husband George turned into one of the most visible Never-Trumpers, appearing regularly on CNN and MSNBC who loved the idea of the husband of a top-Trump advisor blasting the President.
In 2019, McCain called the Conways marriage a “sick relationship.”
Conway told The Daily Beast she wasn’t happy with McCain making light of her marital situation.
“She may wish to outrun her recent past as a years-long resident Mean Girl on The View and Bravo, where her mouth was a spigot of vile and bile hurled toward people and topics she does not know, including my marriage and children, and casually lying about silly things like me calling her (I don’t have her number),” Conway stated.
McCain – for her part – expressed bewilderment at the confrontation.
“It was a bizarre experience and certainly not what I expected when I accepted an invitation to speak at an event hosted by The Washington Post and Tina Brown. The only reason why their marriage was ever a hot topic was because they were constantly airing their dirty laundry to America,” McCain said in an interview with The Daily Beast.
The media loved exploiting what was obviously a difficult family situation for the Conways – Kellyanne and George are now divorced.
George would show up on CNN and MSNBC to call Trump a criminal and a fascist while his wife worked in the White House.
Kellyanne Conway obviously had little patience for McCain and other media figures making political sport out of what ended up being an unsalvageable marriage.
