Since the election of Trump, Steyer has spent tens of millions of dollars of his own money to gain support for his effort.
In doing so, he has been able to grow massive lists of supporters for the cause that he is hoping to use for his campaign.
Considering his main message on the campaign trail still is on impeachment, it is clear that he hopes to leverage that work to gain support.
And as it turns out, one of his other plans is to attack Democrat leadership.
In his newest campaign ad, Steyer blasts Nancy Pelosi over the upcoming six-week recess at a time where Steyer believes that Democrats should stay in the House to push for impeachment.
After talking out how evil he thinks President Trump is, Steyer says, “The Constitution is very clear, Congress has oversight of the president.”
“So what’s their response?” he continued. “They’re going on vacation for six weeks. Seriously? We’re in a crisis. That’s why I’m asking Speaker Pelosi to cancel summer vacation and to conduct daily oversight hearings to hold Trump accountable for his crimes, corruption, and racism.”
This is a risky move for Steyer, and one that Pelosi clearly doesn’t appreciate.
Steyer may be following this strategy after reviewing the campaign of President Trump.
On the campaign trail, he wasn’t attacking the Democrat or the Republican Party, but instead he was focusing on the establishment.
Republicans he didn’t like got the same treatment as Democrats he didn’t like.
And his message clearly resonated with a lot of people.
Steyer is the only Democrat taking such a strong stance against Nancy Pelosi.
And considering that he is pledging to spend $100 million on his campaign, you can expect it to really hurt Pelosi.
But even if his anti-Pelosi ads work and Steyer can propel himself to the Democrat nomination, he will have to face President Trump.
And there is nobody better at blasting the establishment than President Trump.
His message almost certainly won’t work when competing against a President who is basically the anti-establishment.
But only time will tell if his campaign message will resonate.
