Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats have a problem on their hands.

It originated from the “Squad.”

Nancy Pelosi’s plans went down in flames when Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made this challenge.

As Black Eye Politics reports:

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez had some bad news for Democrats.

This is the one controversy the party wants to avoid.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said one thing that made Nancy Pelosi’s life a living hell.

Murders are surging in Democrat-run cities across America.

Killings are up 58 percent in Atlanta, 37 percent in Philadelphia, and an astonishing 533 percent in Portland.

Overall, murders are up 30 percent nationally compared to this point in 2020.

In the face of these facts Democrats are worried Republican attacks on Democrats’ support for the “defund the police” movement will prove political poison once again.

Last November the GOP won every single toss-up race in the House of Representatives and Democrats credited their defeat in large part to the Republican message of law and order.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez did her part to make sure Democrats never get out from under the label of opposing police.

During a Zoom event with New York Congressman Jamaal Bowman, Ocasio-Cortez claimed the concerns over crime amounted to nothing more than “hysteria.”

“Now, I want to say that any amount of harm is unacceptable and too much. But I also want to make sure that this hysteria, you know, that this doesn’t drive a hysteria and that we look at these numbers in context so that we can make responsible decisions about what to allocate in that context,” Ocasio-Cortez stated.

Ocasio-Cortez then explained that defunding the police was the answer to the crime crisis sweeping major Democrat-run cities.

“I agree with Representative Bowman, that I do believe that we need to reallocate resources away and that a big, you know, major causes of this — and by the way, I also think it’s important context because we hear on the news and media, they perpetuate this idea of crime wave, crime wave, crime wave, right?” she continued. “And so this idea that a lot of us are panicked thinking that we are at some unprecedented level that we’ve never seen before,” Ocasio-Cortez added.

This is the last thing Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats want to deal with.

Republicans overperformed expectations in 2020—Nancy Pelosi predicted Democrats would grow their House majority by 15 to 20 seats—in large part because Republicans’ attacks on Democrats for supporting defunding the police found their mark.

As the Black Lives Matter riots raged last summer, Ocasio-Cortez and other prominent Democrats—as well as much of the corporate media—embraced the “defund the police” movement.

Democrats overestimated the popularity of Black Lives Matter—its public support quickly declined as Americans were repelled by the riots—as voters in swing districts punished Democrats for supporting lawlessness.

Pelosi and other top officials hoped the party learned its lesson last November.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made it clear that is not the case.
