This wasn’t what Taylor Swift anticipated.
The news about Donald Trump could compel her to make significant changes.
And it exposed a major issue she hadn’t foreseen.
As American Patriot Daily reports:
When Taylor Swift decided to endorse Kamala Harris, many Democrats excitedly believed it would turn the entire election on its head and propel Harris straight to the White House.
Their reasons for believing this were somewhat understandable, as Swift has indeed developed a massive popularity that is unrivaled by any other musician in the recent past.
Many Harris supporters believed that Swift’s rabid fans would flock to Harris as soon as their favorite musician gave her this coveted endorsement.
But it actually did not turn out that way, and new research indicates that Swift’s endorsement may not have had much of an impact at all.
This will force Democrats back to the drawing board as they come face to face with the fact that their celebrity strategy didn’t turn out the way they wanted.
And it will force Swift herself to confront the fact that endorsing politicians is likely a net loss for her, as it alienates some fans and doesn’t even help the candidate she is endorsing.
According to Fox News, “After TIME magazine named Taylor Swift ‘person of the year’ in 2023 amid her global Eras Tour, she solidified her position as a cultural phenomenon, specifically among young women. Then, when she endorsed the Harris-Walz campaign in 2024, it was deemed a devastating blow to the Trump campaign.
“But President-elect Donald Trump’s sweeping victory over Vice President Kamala Harris indicates that Swift’s endorsement might not have had the actual impact Democrats were hoping for and that the Hollywood celebrity endorsement model might be splintering.”
Swift’s fans love her for her music, but they don’t actually obey her every move like she is some kind of religious figure.
They simply enjoy listening to her songs and going to her concerts, and that’s all there is to it.
The article continues, “In a New York Times, Philadelphia Inquirer and Siena College poll, which was conducted starting one day after Swift endorsed the Harris-Walz campaign, nearly 2,500 likely voters nationwide revealed that 44% have a favorable opinion of Swift, compared to 34% who have unfavorable views.
“The same poll found that 47% view Trump favorably, compared to 51% who don’t. The poll shows that 70% of Democrats have a favorable view of Swift, compared to 41% of independents and just 23% of Republicans. A total of 60% of Republicans indicated that they had an unfavorable view of Swift, while only 11% of Democrats felt the same way.”
It appears that all Swift really did through her endorsement was polarize the views people had of her, not affect the views people had of Trump or Harris.
This means that her goal of swinging the election towards Harris didn’t work.
Celebrity endorsements have once again proven to be a weak political strategy, and Democrats will have to find a candidate in 2028 who is less reliant on them.
