Ron DeSantis is trying to make up ground on Donald Trump.

DeSantis thinks he has an opening.

And Ron DeSantis let Trey Gowdy in on the big difference between him and Donald Trump.

As Great American Daily reports:

Joe Biden’s disastrous foreign policy humiliated America abroad.

And now even by Biden’s own admission his reckless war with Russia over Ukraine pushed the planet to the closest it’s been to nuclear holocaust since the 13-day Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962.

In an interview with DeSantis on Fox News Gowdy asked DeSantis how he would handle the war in Ukraine if he is president in 2025.

DeSantis began by not answering the question and stated his opposition to woke ideology in the military.

And then DeSantis reiterated that his position is the same as Joe Biden’s in hoping that there is a settlement, but making no promise to cut off the $130 billion and counting in taxpayer money that Joe Biden funneled to the Ukrainians.

DeSantis is trying to straddle a fence in appealing to Trump supporters and his establishment donors on Ukraine.

Earlier this year DeSantis said the war in Ukraine was not in the U.S. strategic interest.

Reliable pillars of the GOP establishment such as anti-gun RINO Texas Senator John Cornyn and the Wall Street Journal editorial board pummeled DeSantis for deviating from the swamp consensus on Ukraine.

Shortly thereafter DeSantis backed down and came in favor of regime change in Russia by declaring Russian President Vladimir Putin a “war criminal” who needs to be “held accountable.”

“I think he is a war criminal,” DeSantis said in an interview with liberal British journalist Piers Morgan. “I do think that he should be held accountable.”

The only way to hold Putin accountable as a war criminal is to remove him from power.

And DeSantis is now calling for a regime change operation against the leader of the country with the world’s largest nuclear arsenal.

Donald Trump slammed DeSantis for echoing the Biden position in Ukraine.

Trump said throwing around terms like “war criminal” was reckless because it would force Putin to dig in and become less likely to come to the table for peace talks.

“If you say he’s a war criminal, it’s going to be a lot tougher to make a deal to make this thing stopped,” Trump declared. “If he’s going to be a war criminal, people are going to grab him and execute him, he’s going to fight a lot harder than he’s fighting under the other circumstance.”

DeSantis also did not say he would end Joe Biden’s taxpayer money gravy train for the war in Ukraine.

Biden recently announced he would support training Ukrainian pilots to fly American F-16s, which the Ukrainians could use to strike targets in Russia.

Ukraine using American weapons to invade Russia would light a match that could eventually ignite nuclear war.

DeSantis did not oppose this Biden proposal but Donald Trump did and posted on Truth Social that he is the only candidate in this race that could end the war in Ukraine.

“[President Joe] Biden continues to bring the world ever closer to nuclear war. I alone am the candidate who can prevent World War 3. I will end the killing and bloodshed and bring peace to Europe and the World!” Trump wrote.

In 2016, Donald Trump’s “America First” foreign policy differentiated himself from the GOP field which largely supported the John McCain/Liz Cheney/Mitt Romney foreign policy.

Trump promising to end wars and bring America’s troops home won over working-class voters and helped propel Trump to the presidency.

And with DeSantis coming down closer to Joe Biden’s position on Ukraine, history could repeat itself.
