Nancy Pelosi set up the January 6 Committee to bring down Donald Trump.
But Pelosi learned some bad news.
And Trey Gowdy is going to drive Nancy Pelosi crazy with what he just said on Fox News.
As Great American Daily reports:
Former South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy appeared on Fox Business Channel with co-hosts Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum to analyze the first January 6 committee hearing.
The committee members hired a former ABC News producer to add Hollywood glitz to the proceeding.
But Gowdy came away from the hearing less than impressed.
One of the keys for the committee to recommend criminal charges against Donald Trump is proving Trump knew he actually lost the election.
But Gowdy explained the committee presented no evidence to actually prove any of the key charges Democrats leveled against President Trump about January 6.
“If, in fact, the president knew he lost, if, in fact, he knew he lost the election — that’s new. I’ve never heard him say that. So if they have testimony on that, I think that’s important if he knew the fraud was not dispositive,” Gowdy stated. “The thing I really highlighted, Bret, Martha — if he really thought that hanging Mike Pence was a good idea, then that is both provocative and new.”
Gowdy also echoed a point made by George Washington law professor Jonathan Turley that the hearing violated fundamental tenants of any legal proceeding as there was no adversarial nature due to the fact that every member of the committee was appointed by Nancy Pelosi.
The committee used edited video clips with any witnesses or committee members pushing back to add context or challenge claims that were made.
Fundamentally, the committee is a kangaroo court designed only to stop Donald Trump from running for re-election in 2024.
“But to professor Turley’s point, it also has to be fair, and when you get to call all the witnesses and you get to select which excerpts to read or play or which videos — ours is an adversarial system. I mean, every major court decision is based on adversary, so there needs to be more of that for the jury to buy it,” Gowdy stated.
Gowdy also undercut one of the committee’s so-called “bombshells” in that former Attorney General William Barr’s testimony that he told President Trump his voter fraud claims were “bullshit” by noting that Barr already admitted as much in a book published last year.
“Speaking of AG Barr, it’s compelling. It’s probative — it’s just not new. So what I was looking for, me, we all know that Bill Barr, he wrote a book about it. So … I’m looking for things that are both probative and new,” Gowdy continued.
The January 6 committee is a political show trial.
It has no legitimate legislative purpose and its only goal is to use the power of the state to jail Joe Biden’s political opponents.
