Washington elites are furious about losing the fight over who should be speaker of the House.
And now Newt Gingrich launched this unthinkable attack on Matt Gaetz.

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich is a reliable voice for the GOP establishment.
And Gingrich expressed the Republican Party elite’s rage that Matt Gaetz and other conservatives rounded up the votes to remove McCarthy as speaker of the House after McCarthy failed to keep his word to fight Joe Biden’s big spending agenda and hold Biden accountable for weaponizing the government against Donald Trump.
Gingrich appeared on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show and ranted and raved that House Republicans should expel Gaetz and the other conservatives for the “crime” of expecting McCarthy to live up to his word to stand up to Joe Biden and stop the socialist spending spree that spawned the inflation crisis that’s crushing everyday Americans.
“I think it’s a very sad day because I think Kevin McCarthy is one of the most talented leaders I’ve ever worked with,” Gingrich fumed. “I think that he accomplished an amazing amount for having a small majority and being — having to take on both the Senate and the White House. And I think this is really a tragic outcome. This was a leader who both gained seats in 2020, gained seats in 2022, increased the number of women members, increased the number of veterans, increased the number of minority members, and he had a vision for a better future.”
Despite the fact that Gingrich once cozied up to Nancy Pelosi on a couch for a commercial promoting the Green New Deal, Gingrich absurdly tried to position himself as the arbiter of conservatism and smeared Gaetz and his fellow conservatives as “traitors.”
“From my position as a longtime Republican activist, they’re traitors. All eight of them should, in fact be primaried. They should all be driven out of public life. What they did was to go to the other team to cause total chaos. We ought to be focusing on Biden. We ought to be focusing on the economy. We ought to be focusing on the border. Instead, you’re going to get a week or 10 days of the media focusing on Republican disarray. It’s an astonishingly destructive behavior by a handful of egocentric people who think they’re superior to 96% of the conference,” Gingrich raged.
Establishment Republicans think they should never be held accountable for the promises they make to voters to govern as conservatives.
McCarthy cut a deal this spring that allowed Biden to run up unlimited debt until January 2025.
Since McCarthy’s debt ceiling surrender Joe Biden racked up nearly $2 trillion in new red ink exploding the national debt to almost $33 trillion.
McCarthy rolling over for Joe Biden in that fight infuriated Gaetz and other conservatives.
And McCarthy colluding with Democrats to pass a clean continuing resolution that funded Joe Biden’s agenda at the levels Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi set in 2022 was the last straw and led to McCarthy’s ouster.
