The world of sports once again intersected with the world of politics.
Americans hoped to be done with this crossover.
And one NFL player’s arrest connected to Trump in this unspeakable way.
As 2024 Battleground reports:
Former Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe got himself arrested at a Huntington Beach, California, city council meeting over a proposed plaque at the city library that contained the words “magical,” “alluring,” “galvanizing,” and “adventurous” which spelled out MAGA.
The sign played off Barack Obama’s “hope and change” and Joe Biden’s “build back better” slogans while also paying tribute to Trump’s promise to return America to the Golden Age.
“Through hope and change our nation has built back better of Making America Great Again!” the sign read.
Kluwe used his time speaking at the meeting to rant and rave that the MAGA movement was a bunch of bigots.
“It’s clear that this council doesn’t listen, so instead I’m gonna take my time to say what MAGA has stood for these past three weeks,” Kluwe began.
“MAGA stands for trying to erase trans people from existence. MAGA stands for resegregation and racism. MAGA stands for censorship and book bans.”
Kluwe then announced he was going to engage in civil disobedience to disrupt the meeting before getting arrested.
“I will now engage in the time-honored American tradition of peaceful civil disobedience,” Kluwe declared.
Chris Kluwe was woke before the word even existed.
Back in 2014, Kluwe claimed the Vikings cut him following the 2012 season due to his outspoken defense of homosexual marriage.
“I don’t have anything against the Vikings organization itself. I had eight wonderful years with the Minnesota Vikings,” Kluwe said in an interview on CNN.
“I had a problem with three individual people within the Vikings, and the fact remains is that I did everything my coaches wanted me to do (on the field). … No one ever told me that I wasn’t doing what I was supposed to do.”
“The only thing that changed from Year 8 to when I got cut is that I started speaking out on same-sex rights,” Kluwe added.
The Vikings denied those allegations.
“Any notion that Chris was released from our football team due to his stance on marriage equality is entirely inaccurate and inconsistent with team policy. Chris was released strictly based on his football performance,” a statement from the team read.
The truth of the matter was the NFL is governed by a salary cap and Kluwe was an eight-year veteran who finished a mediocre 17th in punting.
Minnesota wanted to save some cap space, which they did by drafting a punter in the fifth round.
But judging by Kluwe’s performance in the Huntington Beach town hall, clear thinking isn’t one of his strong suits either.
