Jasmine Crockett Says Democrats Fail Black Voters
Democrats count on winning 90 percent of the black vote as the bedrock of their political coalition.
Trump winning 20 percent of black men played a pivotal role in Trump becoming the first Republican since George W. Bush in 2004 to carry the popular vote.
Democrats were hoping to woo back these voters with the usual attacks about Republicans being racists and looking to oppress black Americans if they win power.
At the Essence Festival in New Orleans, Jasmine Crockett of all people took a blowtorch to this scheme.
Crockett began with the normal attack on Republicans being racists.
“It is not enough just to be that you’re not the racist Republican, but that is what has happened with Black folk; they understood that we couldn’t be a party that actually wants to lynch us every day,” Crockett raged.
But Crockett went on to hammer Democrats as no better, telling the audience that black Americans ended up voting for Democrats only for Democrats to open the border and hurt the economic prospects of black Americans.
Crockett went on to accuse her party of not caring about black voters.
“So we sit up there, and we say that we’re just voting for mitigation, but it’s actually time for us to vote for uplift. And unfortunately, so many of these candidates do not care about uplifting us. This is why we have not advanced at the level that we should have at this point,” Crockett added.
Crockett’s Message to Voters
Every four years, Democrats tell black voters they can’t get ahead in America, and they are falling behind economically.
And every four years, black voters cast 90 percent of their ballots for Democrats.
Crockett urged black voters to get in Democrats’ faces and demand to know why they were ignoring their concerns and not improving their lives.
“Get in their faces and make them tell you, ‘Yes, I was elected to represent you, but I don’t care about you.’ That is what you make them do,” Crockett continued. “You show up, get in their faces, and if they decide they’re not going to represent you, you let them know you will work hard to make sure they lose their seats.”
Without massive black turnout, Democrats won’t win key Senate races in North Carolina, Ohio and Michigan.
Crockett is telling black voters that Democrats aren’t giving them a good reason to show up at the polls.
Losing those races means Chuck Schumer won’t be majority leader next year.
