Democrats were desperate to avoid having to take this course of action.
But in the end, John Fetterman left them no choice.
And John Fetterman forced Democrats to cross the one line they never wanted to.

Just before the Senate unanimously voted to impose a dress code, John Fetterman tried to get ahead of his colleagues rebuking him by telling reporters that he would wear a suit and tie while casting votes on the Senate floor or presiding over the body and committee hearings.
No one could quite understand why it was so important to Fetterman that he showed up to work dressed like he just walked out of a dive bar wearing grimy shorts and a hoodie.
But even Fetterman’s fellow Democrat senators lost their patience with Fetterman’s disrespect.
And the final cherry on top was the fact that Fetterman’s woke allies raged over the details of the dress code the Senate imposed as a result of Fetterman’s disrespectful attire.
Policy Director of Demand Progress Daniel Schuman whined on X – the app formerly known as Twitter – that the dress code only applied to men and the resolution didn’t define what a man is.
“Certainly looks like. Who is the arbiter of who counts as a man for the purposes of the resolution? Maybe the Sergeant at Arms? Or the Majority Leader? It doesn’t say. But to fix it, get this, you need a 2/3s vote, per the resolution, which is BS,” Schuman wrote.
This called back to the widely mocked moment from now-Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation hearings where she couldn’t define what a woman is.
The answer to Schuman’s question is easy.
If someone is born with male reproductive organs, they are a man.
Schuman then ranted and raved that drag queens couldn’t wear their dresses and stripper outfits and instead would have to dress like normal men if they visit the Senate floor.
“It also applies, I guess, if you wish to wear drag. It only appears to say what men must wear, with women’s attire being defined as ‘business attire,’ which doesn’t mean much. Making this even more juicy is that the resolution wasn’t publicly available before it was voted upon,” Schuman continued.
“FINALLY: this doesn’t apply just to Senators, but to ANYONE on the floor. That’s personal, committee, and leadership staff, secretary of the Senate staff, visitors, and so on. So it’s not just 100 senators who are put into a box, but ANYONE who works or visits the Senate floor,” Schuman added.
Chuck Schumer relaxing the dress code to accommodate either Fetterman’s impairment as he can’t actually put on a suit, or his childish mentality, proved to be wildly unpopular with senators of both parties.
And the Senate restoring a dress code caused Democrats to melt down and pick silly fights.
