Fox News Founder Rupert Murdoch Retires From Company’s Board of Directors

The relationship between Fox News and Donald Trump grew strained over the last year.

But now Fox News underwent a massive shakeup.

And a retirement at the top of Fox News will change everything for Donald Trump.

Fox News founder Rupert Murdoch retired from his position as chairman of the board for Fox Corp. and News Corp.

Murdoch’s son Lachlan – who is currently the co-chairman of News Corp. – will become the sole chair of the company that oversees Fox News.

“Following a career that began nearly 70 years ago in 1954,” Fox Corporation and News Corporation’s statement announcing the retirement read, “Rupert Murdoch is stepping down as chairman of each board effective as of the upcoming Annual General Meeting of Shareholders of each company in mid-November. Mr. Murdoch will be appointed Chairman Emeritus of each company. Following the Annual General Meetings, Lachlan Murdoch will become sole Chair of News Corp and continue as Executive Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Fox Corporation.”

Murdoch built his media empire on British and Australian tabloids before buying the New York Post in 1977.

That gave Murdoch a foothold in America where he then founded Fox News in 1996 and later bought the Wall Street Journal.

After the 2022 midterm elections Murdoch aligned the editorial slant of all the outlets under his control to oppose Donald Trump’s re-election campaign in the GOP primary.

The Wall Street Journal and the New York Post published a steady stream of editorials and columns attacking Trump.

Fox News banned Trump from the airwaves for months while booking Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to appear on the air more than 100 times.

In a letter to the staff at his international media empire Murdoch promised he would still read every newspaper and watch every news channel under his control in what many saw as a pledge that those outlets would continue to maintain their anti-Trump posture in the GOP primary.

“In my new role, I can guarantee you that I will be involved every day in the contest of ideas. Our companies are communities, and I will be an active member of our community. I will be watching our broadcasts with a critical eye, reading our newspapers and websites and books with much interest, and reaching out to you with thoughts, ideas, and advice,” Murdoch wrote in his memo.

Trump reacted to Murdoch’s departure in a post on Truth Social that contained a hint of Trump gloating about being the cause of forcing Murdoch to finally retire.

The post also included Trump demanding that RINO Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell join Murdoch in retirement.

“Many people are saying that, ‘You forced Rupert Murdoch into retirement!’ I do not believe this is so, but while we’re at it, how about getting rid of ‘Democrat’ Mitch McConnell, who gives the Radical Left Lunatics, together with his small band of automatic ‘yes’ votes, EVERYTHING they want. There is ZERO Republican Leadership in the United States Senate. MAGA!!!” Trump wrote.

The truth is for all the media attacks on Fox News as “state TV” during the Trump years Rupert Murdoch never much cared for Donald Trump.

Murdoch is a globalist who supports gun control, amnesty for illegal aliens and schemes to fight climate change.

At the outset of the 2016 campaign Fox News was openly hostile to Trump and appeared to favor Jeb Bush.

Murdoch only changed his tune after Trump won the GOP nomination.

In the 2024 campaign, Rupert Murdoch returned to his anti-Trump roots on his way out the door.
