California Governor Gavin Newsom Says He Won’t Challenge Kamala Harris in 2024

Polls show Kamala Harris is wildly unpopular.

Democrats are in a bind on what to do about her.

Kamala Harris just got one unexpected update about losing her spot on the 2024 ticket.

As American Patriot Daily reports:

Democrats are freaking out.

CNN and the Wall Street Journal released polls showing Donald Trump leading Joe Biden.

Democrats were sure a weaponized justice system indicting Donald Trump on 91 criminal charges would finish Trump once and for all.

But the Wall Street Journal and CNN polls found voters think Joe Biden is too old to be president, that Biden’s socialist agenda made the economy worse, and that Trump was a more accomplished president.

Pushing Biden out of the 2024 race for a new candidate was complicated by the fact that polls show Kamala Harris is the most unpopular vice president ever.

And switching out Biden for Harris only would mean a bigger landslide loss as the Real Clear Politics polling average showed Trump leading Harris by five points.

That’s why many in the Democrat Party were secretly hoping an eleventh-hour savior like California Governor Gavin Newsom would ride into the race.

Newsom – by virtue of his position as governor of the largest state in the union – is the one Democrat who has the name recognition, media presence, donor file and connection to high-profile operatives who could slap together a credible last-minute presidential candidate.

But Newsom, for all his faults, is also a canny political operator.

And he wants no part of a 2024 election that is shaping up as a referendum on Joe Biden’s disastrous record on crime, the border crisis, inflation, and failed foreign policy.

In an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd, Newsom took himself out of consideration for the 2024 race and said it was time for the Democrat Party to accept that Joe Biden is running for re-election.

“We need to move past this notion that he’s not going to run,” Newsom told Todd. “President Biden is going to run and I’m looking forward to him getting reelected.”

Newsom added that if Biden pulled out for any reason, he wouldn’t challenge Harris in the primary, saying she is “naturally lined up.”

“Of course not. By definition. Won’t happen,” Newsom said of taking on Harris.

Newsom’s positioning is all about 2028 when, no matter who wins between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, the nation will face an open-seat race for the presidency.

Any challenge to Kamala Harris in 2024 would tear the Democrat Party apart as if Biden didn’t run Harris would be the first black, female nominee.

And in a party wedded to woke identity politics, Harris’s race and gender are powerful arguments to hand her the nomination.

Newsom’s phrasing also hinted at how he plans to go after Harris in 2024.

By declaring Harris “naturally lined up” Newsom’s words have two meanings.

If Joe Biden loses to Donald Trump in 2024 then Newsom will say that nominating Kamala Harris is just continuing a failed line of succession in the Democrat Party that already led to electoral ruin.
